Multiple Dental Implants At Battersea Dentist

Whether you are missing one, several, or all of your teeth, our team of highly experienced oral surgeons and prosthetic dentists can restore your smile. Our specialists provide complex surgical implant treatments, using dental implants to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or to support partial or full dentures.

The process begins with a detailed consultation at our Battersea clinic, during which the patient receives a comprehensive treatment plan.

If you choose to proceed, treatment is usually scheduled in the following order:

  • Taking impressions for temporary dentures

  • Tooth extraction and placement of temporary dentures, followed by a healing period of around four months

  • CT scan (with optional SMART Guide) and professional hygiene treatment

  • Implant surgery, including bone grafting if required

  • Post-operative check with a healing period of 3 to 9 months

  • Exposure of the implants and placement of healing screws

This structured approach ensures precision, comfort, and optimal results throughout your implant journey.

If all teeth are missing, it is not necessary to place an implant for every tooth. Typically, 6 to 8 implants are sufficient to support 12 to 14 teeth. The exact number of implants required can vary depending on factors such as jaw type (upper or lower) and the patient’s individual anatomy.

Typically, an implant can support approximately 1.5 times the number of teeth it replaces. For example, two implants can support a three-unit bridge, while six implants can support a 12-unit bridge. Wisdom teeth are never replaced with implants.

For implant-supported overdentures, four to six implants are usually used to support the removable denture, with more implants providing greater stability.

Bone grafting is often necessary in the upper rear jaw, a procedure known as a sinus lift. This may be required on one or both sides of the mouth, just below the eye socket. When back molars are lost, the bone can shrink, allowing the sinuses to expand into the space. A sinus lift involves gently raising the sinus membrane and placing artificial bone to create sufficient support for implants. In many cases, the implant can be placed at the same appointment. While now routine, it remains a complex surgical procedure requiring skill, precision, and experience.
